The PanAm Cancer Treatment Centers are proud to announce the start of a new clinical trial for cancer treatment, already in the recruitment phase.
Pilot Study of Zinc aspartate in Patients with Medical Disorders
This is a single-center, Open-label, non-randomized, dose-escalation pilot study to determine the safety and/or tolerability and the recommended phase 2 dose (RP2D) of intravenously administered Zinc aspartate (KLS-1) in patients with refractory or progressive medical disorders.
Zinc (Zn) is one of the most important nutrients for health. Numerous proteins, crucial enzymes, and transcription factors bind to Zn and are thought to be dependent on Zn for their functions. Bioinformatics analysis of the human genome reveals that zinc (Zn) can bind ~10% of all of the proteins found in the human body.
As a co-factor for more than 300 enzymes, Zn participates in the function of enzymes including key kinases, proteases, and phosphatases. Zn also stabilizes the structure of proteins, DNA, RNA, and ribosomes, and regulates gene expression through 3000 zinc finger transcription factors, which are all highly relevant to cancers.
In addition, Zn protects against inflammatory and oxidative stress
Multiple studies show that serum Zn levels are generally low in patients with certain cancers, including esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), malignant prostate cancer, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and so on. Normal physiological concentrations of Zn inhibit cancer cell proliferation and migration, maintain a balanced metabolism and promote apoptosis in cancer cells. Thus, Zn deficiency appears to be involved in every aspect of cancer cell generation and growth. Likewise, Zn plays an important role in normal cellular health and can help recovery in neurological disorders.
